Famous Irish Novelist Visits Bryn Hafren !

The famous Irish novelist Malchy Doyle came to visit Bryn Hafren this year.

Mr Doyle gave a creative writing workshop to some lucky pupils, and autographed copies of his latest book as gifts.

The English department hopes to have other authors visit soon!

Amnesty International Club

Miss Howells runs the school’s Amnesty International Club, raising awareness of human rights atrocities and campaigning to stop them.

Bryn Hafren has been named the UK’s top Amnesty school, after the members of the club raised over £400 during Amnesty International Week.

Members of the group put on role- plays of the treatment of prisoners in jails all over the world (helped by the ferocious guard played by Mrs Horton!), and got other pupils to sign petitions and send letters to free people held captive all over the world.

The girls in the group were invited to London to perform in front of the leaders of Amnesty International, and Teachers’ TV has been in to film Miss Howells, the group, and other members of staff and pupils for a programme on the role of Amnesty International in schools.

Keep an eye out – you may be on TV!
