The Geography Department organised an exciting Geography week from Monday 14th October to Friday 18th October. The theme was poverty and there were a variety of fun activities for pupils to participate in throughout the week. Also, all pupils in Key Stage 3 had a fun filled lesson making models of slum housing, which had to withstand all sorts of natural disasters such as floods, hurricanes and earthquakes! On Tuesday there was a treasure hunt and students turned detectives by searching around the school for flags of less developed countries. On Wednesday a food tasting event took place and students were able to sample some exotic food from around the world. The “Slum dog Millionaire” challenge took place on Thursday, and the girls worked in groups to try and win prizes. On Friday, the girls were given the opportunity to reflect on a busy week and produced some fantastic bookmarks about the topic of poverty. A cake break was also organised and with the help of the girls over £100 was raised for the “Compassion” charity group. All this money will help to sponsor a child from a less developed country. The week was a great success and all the events were really well attended. The pupils really enjoyed themselves while learning about the topic of poverty.
